Plant A Row Grow A Row

FRESH IS BEST!

The Plant a Row Grow a Row program encourages gardeners to grow an extra row of fresh fruits or vegetables for the Food Bank.

We also accept surplus fresh produce from orchards, farms and markets.

This program not only increases the quantity of food that we are able to provide our clients, but also the quality of food that we are able to provide. Looking for seeds? Contact our office. Each year Pacific Northwest Seeds generously donates seeds to the Central Okanagan Food Bank in support of our Plant a Row Grow a Row program and our other Food Security initiatives.

Donations can be dropped off at either our Kelowna or Westside location during regular business hours.

If you need assistance harvesting your fresh veggies or picking your fruit trees, please contact The Okanagan Fruit Tree Project.

BC Farmers Market Nutrition Coupon

The Central Okanagan Food Bank partners with the BC Association of Farmers’ Markets in a unique program called The BC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program (FMNCP), a healthy eating initiative that supports Farmers’ Markets and strengthens Food Security across British Columbia. We hand out coupons to our low-income families and seniors (those who have pre-registered for the program and participated in our Food Literacy class). These coupons can be spent at our local Farmers’ Market to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, cheese, eggs, nuts, fish and meat. Each household enrolled in the program is eligible to receive a minimum of $15/week in coupons.

Farmers’ Food Donation Tax Credit

The BC Farmers’ Food Donation Tax Credit is a new tax credit to encourage farmers to donate certain agricultural products that they produce in BC, to registered charities such as Food Banks.

The credit will be 25% of the eligible amount of all the farmer’s or farming corporation’s qualifying gifts for the tax year. The credit will be available to farmers, their spouse or common-law partners, or farming corporations who make a gift of agricultural product after February 16, 2016 and before January 1, 2019.

Questions? As the tax credit is brand new, we don’t have all the specific details yet, but you can call toll free to the Tax Credit Info line at 1-877-387-3332 for more info.
