Becoming a Holiday Helper means you’re supporting a local family or senior in need during the holiday season. You’ll help provide gifts and festive cheer to those who might otherwise go without.

Our Holiday Helpers agree to find heartfelt gifts for their selected families, and deliver them to COFB in time for the holidays.

You’ll receive a wish list or profile from your matched family or senior with a few suggested ideas to guide your shopping. Gifts might include clothing, toys, books, personal care items, or household essentials, and gift cards are always appreciated too.

Please include gift receipts for clothing (and for other items when you can) to make exchanges easy.

A quick note:
🚫 Please avoid alcohol, cannabis, or event tickets.

Most Holiday Helpers find that spending around $100–$150 per family member provides a balanced and meaningful gift experience, but there's no required amount. Whatever you can give will make a difference. ❤️

If supporting a full family isn’t the right fit this year, you can still share the spirit of the season by contributing to the Merry Moments Fund. Your donation will help ensure that every family and senior receives something special.

Yes! To issue a charitable tax receipt, we require copies of your receipts for all donated items.

Cash donations do not require a receipt from the store. We can issue a tax receipt directly.

In addition, please provide gift receipts whenever possible, especially for clothing. Many stores only process exchanges or returns to the original payment method when using a regular sales receipt, which can make it difficult for families to swap items if needed.

Thank you for helping us make your donation both joyful and practical for the families we support!

Gift cards allow parents or seniors to choose exactly what they need, whether it’s groceries, household essentials, or a special treat. Many families appreciate cards for grocery stores, local restaurants, or toy shops.

Unless specifically requested, we ask that you avoid perishable food items, as they can be difficult to store, deliver safely, and accommodate food allergies or dietary restrictions. Gift cards give families flexibility, ensure everyone’s needs are met, and help maintain dignity and safety.

Yes, as long as the client has indicated they are okay with gently used items. This ensures that all gifts meet the family or senior’s needs and expectations.

We ask that used items not make up the majority of your donation. They work best as a thoughtful extra, or for larger items like a food processor or blender. If you have something like this, you’re welcome to donate it to us, and we’ll make sure it goes to a Merry Moments client who can use it, or pass it to another local agency if appropriate. If you prefer, we can also return the item to you.

This approach helps us maintain quality and dignity for all recipients while still welcoming generous contributions! ❤️

There are a few ways you can prepare your gifts. No matter which option you choose, your care and thoughtfulness will make the holidays brighter for someone in our community. ❤️

Option 1: Leave gifts unwrapped This is our most common choice. It allows families to experience the joy of wrapping gifts for their loved ones. If you choose this option, it’s always appreciated when you include a little extra like wrapping paper, gift bags, or bows so families have what they need to make it special.

Option 2: Wrap the gifts Wrapped gifts can make the holidays extra magical, especially for adults or seniors. If you wrap gifts for children, please include a list of what’s inside for their parent or guardian, just in case an exchange or adjustment is needed.

Option 3: Use gift bags If you’d like a happy medium, placing gifts in a gift bag with tissue paper is a great option. It lets parents or guardians see the gifts ahead of time, while still keeping some surprise for Christmas morning.

We kindly ask that all gifts be dropped off by December 10th. If you need a little flexibility, please reach out and we’ll do our best to accommodate: [email protected]

We’re aiming to support 100 families and seniors this season. Dropping off by December 10th gives our team time to organize, schedule, and ensure every family receives their gifts by December 15th.

Thank you for helping us spread holiday cheer, right on time. ❤️

To protect everyone’s privacy and maintain dignity for all participants, we don’t arrange direct meetings between donors and recipients.

That said, your generosity truly reaches them, and your gifts and care make a lasting impact during what can be a difficult time of year. ❤️

If you’d like, you’re welcome to include a holiday card or note with your delivery, and you may add your contact information inside it. Some families or seniors choose to reach out with a thank-you message, but there’s no expectation for them to do so.

Yes! Charitable tax receipts are available for donations of $20 or more. This helps us make sure your generosity is recognized properly.

To issue a receipt, we do need copies of your sales receipts. These can be dropped off with your gifts, uploaded online, or emailed to us at [email protected]

Merry Moments is non-denominational and designed to support families and seniors not already receiving holiday assistance from other community programs. This helps us reach those who might otherwise slip through the cracks.

You can reach our Merry Moments team by email at [email protected]. We’re happy to answer any questions and help you get started spreading holiday cheer!
