Bake the World a Better Place

This year the Okanagan has been blessed with what feels like an extended summer, which has made it hard to believe that Thanksgiving has come and gone already. During the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, the COFB held our 3rd annual Bake the World a Better Place fundraiser, resulting in $18,700 raised this year!

This event was created in 2020 when COVID-19 restrictions had been implemented and the community was hungry to give back. Our Bake the World a Better Place fundraiser gave people a reason to celebrate during trying times while supporting the Central Okanagan Food Bank. Fast forward three years later and the anticipation for this yearly event has quickly grown. This year, 90% of pies were sold within the first day! This year we added the option for people to buy a pie for a food bank client, resulting in 141 pies distributed to our clients!

This event would not have been possible without the generosity of our local chefs. Participating in this event is an enormous undertaking when time and resources are limited but the chefs always pull through to support us. From everyone at the Central Okanagan Food Bank, we would like to thank every chef that was able to make time to bake pies for us this year:

  • Brent Durec of Sysco and BC Chef’s Association
  • Travis Pye of Lakehouse Home Store
  • Mike Barillaro of Okanagan College
  • Carlos Rodriguez of Allium Hospitality
  • Adam Relvas of Relvas Catering
  • Nelson Daniels of Gallagher’s Canyon Bar & Grill
  • Jamie Theberge of Midtown Station
  • Shelley Robinson & Luc Bissonette of Big White Ski Resort
  • Dan Carkner of Modest Butcher
  • Tina Tang & Lola Noel of TT Bakeshop
  • Kyla King of Radjamz
  • Lizzie Boyle of Quail’s Gate
  • Damian Hartman of Train Station Pub
  • Dimitri Bakalos & Stephanie Long of The Lookout Restaurant at Gray Monk

It serves our hearts well to know that our community benefits from our love of good food.  From hearty and savory to sumptuous and sweet there is enough variety to please any palate

A special thank you to this year’s sponsors!

And as the saying goes, beauty is in the PIE of the beholder. Stay tuned for next year’s pie lineup!
