After seeing how the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic affected the people of the Okanagan, Kelowna Transmission & Auto Repair recognized the increased need within the community and immediately sprang to support the Central Okanagan Food Bank in any way they could. The family owned and operated business has established a reputation for themselves as providing honest quality service. Once their business started to become successful, they knew they wanted to put energy into giving back to charitable causes.
After meeting Ivar and Marcelle of Kelowna Transmission & Auto Repair, it was apparent how their values align with those of the Central Okanagan Food Bank, which is to create a healthy, hungry-free community. With their help, we have been able to meet the needs of over 1,200 families. In their shop lobby, there is a slushie machine with two flavours, which is by donation to the COFB. This fun and creative way to raise funds has been well received by staff, customers, and other businesses that work with the auto repair company.
Another valuable way Kelowna Transmission & Auto Repair supports the COFB is by using their advertising power to bring awareness to people about our organization’s impact. If you’ve heard one of their ads before, you may have learned about one of the many programs we offer, our reach within the community or our most needed items list. Beyond the food bank, they also support the Pantry: A Student Food Bank at UBCO, and Kelowna’s Community Fridge.
Reflecting on this last year has allowed us the opportunity to realize that each one of us can truly make a difference by caring for the people around us – especially the most vulnerable. It has been a pleasure to nourish those in need through the commitment of organizations like Kelowna Transmission & Auto Repair.
